ABOUT CHERYL
My Education:
Southeastern School of Neuromuscular Therapy and Massage; Charlotte, NC
Craniosacral Therapy; Upledger Institute, Florida
Temple-Style Lomilomi (Hawaiian Massage); Kahuna Malia (Sharon) Montgomery
Practice Philosophy:
Because of my background I have a unique approach to bodywork. My knowledge of anatomy comes from both the outside and the inside. I have seen the brain and internal organs and how the muscles attach, I have held bones, muscles, and even a beating heart in my hand. My personal background has taught me a level of compassion that only comes from understanding through experience...not just education.
I believe that regular massage is no longer a luxury! Handling the stress of hectic living takes a group effort. Finding the right fit for each individual is so necessary and I take pleasure in locating the right tools or even the right practitioner to help my clients.
Why I do what I do:
I am one of the lucky ones. For many years I was miserable at work, but now I can honestly say that if money were no object I would still do what I do everyday because I LOVE what I do! It's an awesome feeling to help people stop hurting or help someone deal with the physical and emotional lemons life has handed them.
I have a background of sexual and physical abuse and all the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual issues that come from that experience. I needed help and was offered none, so I felt a calling to help others early on. I wanted to be able to give what I never had. As a result I began working in the hospital setting and eventually had an eighteen year career in the operating room.
The stress and physical demands of the O.R. left me with pain and deteriorating health on top of the issues from abuse. I made a choice to seek out massage and bodywork instead of medicine and surgery. That decision changed my life...and my career!
Today I do not consider that I work. How can you call it 'work' when you love what you do?! Seeing the changes in my wonderful clients is rewarding beyond anything else I could imagine to do!
A little bit about me:
Other than my passion for health and body work, I am an artist, writer, and amateur photographer. I sing - often off-key. I love to shop, do crafty things, and eat good food!
I am greatly enjoying all that Charleston, SC has to offer! Many years ago when I was involved in travel-nursing I worked at St. Francis when the building was brand new. I fell in love with Charleston then and am glad to be here now! We look forward to many years of life and business in the Lowcountry.
Recently I have received my Emotion Code Certification and am currently working toward Certification in Body Code as well. So happy to be able to add to what I can offer my wonderful clients!! These new tools are very helpful in reaching balance and maintaining health! Ask me about them at your next appointment or call and set up a consultation!
